Can we help you? Promoting good practice in customer care is vital not only in business contexts, but in teaching contexts, too: learners can be seen as customers, with both rights and responsibilities. We as language teachers are in the business of marketing learning. Promoting learner autonomy is a key aspect of such approaches to ‘teaching’. This series of workshops draws on international research carried out by the Institute of Customer Service.

Three introductory workshop sessions. A series of lesson simulations, each led by a participant. Improving the lesson plans, after constructive feedback. Producing a poster illustrating the lesson plans, with the accompanying materials used.

The simulation, lessons plans and poster are each assessed. Dossier of improved work, with accompanying letter of critical self-reflection and self-assessment, is also part of the overall assessment.

In addition to Scrivener, Harmer, Roche, Weskamp and the CEFR, with Oberstufe syllabus, a working bibliography in the form of a book exhibition and a collection of articles will be offered.
