In this seminar we will discuss the historical ties between Britain and the Caribbean as well as Anglo-Caribbean cultures and literatures from the perspective of authors and artists such as Sam Selvon, Una Marson, Andrea Levy, Stuart Hall, Claudia Jones, the Caribbean Artists Movement, Caryl Phillips. We will discuss different text-types, media and artforms such as monuments, novels, drama, auto-biography, painting, the Carnival and theoretical approaches to questions of race, identity, gender, and anti-racism.
