The aim of this lecture course is to familiarize students with key theoretical, critical and methodological concepts of British and postcolonial literary studies.
Introduction to British and Postcolonial Literary Studies aims at introducing you to the wide field of English and Postcolonial Literatures. The lecture course will discuss issues of literary theory, methods of criticism, and literary genres. It will make you familiar with the basic tools of as well as critical concepts and major issues in literary scholarship, - specifically in postcolonial literary theory and criticism -, that will enable you to analyse, compare and contextualise a variety of text types from a wide range of different historical and cultural sites. The course offers detailed discussion of many internationally renowned African, Australian, Canadian, Caribbean, Indian, Irish and British authors, including Chinua Achebe, Salman Rushdie, James Joyce, Derek Walcott, Caryl Phillips, Andrea Levy, William Shakespeare, Charlotte Bronte, and many more.
