Shakespeare: A Midsummernight's Dream

A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of Shakespeare's most fascinating comedies as witnessed by its numerous interpretations, film versions and reflections in the other arts (music, painting). In this seminar we will not only analyse the play but also discuss its sources, textual problems, and the reception of this romantic comedy (especially in film). We will also take the opportunity of viewing rehearsals and the production of this play at the Tiroler Landestheater and discuss it with its director. This seminar will also serve as an introduction to the modern methodology of Shakespearean Studies.
