This course will develop reading and writing skills at C2 and C2+ levels. Writing tasks will include a static description, an interpretive essay, and a comparison/contrast essay. We will focus on the development of strong thesis statements, organization, coherence, and style. Students who enroll in this course should expect to devote ample time to it.

study of a variety of texts - argumentative, problem-based, academic and literary - and longer written essays and short papers on topical and academic issues

in-class study of academic and student texts with special stress on issues of content, structure, language, style and tone

written work throughout the semester and final written exam
