The main aims are to introduce basic editing and proof-reading skills while polishing up language skills to C2+ level. In editing skills, the main aim is to analyse and produce texts focussed on a clear thesis statement pervading the the whole text whose main idea and supporting arguments and evidence are presented in clearly-demarcated paragraphs, each with its main idea, topic sentence and supporting evidence (arguments, statistics, quotations, etc.). The relevance of content to the thesis statement and the avoidance of repetition are major content-related aims. Attention is also paid to the logical organisation of content (structural flow) in clearly-demarcated paragraphs, each with its main idea expressed in a topic sentence based on convincing evidence. Logical coherence is aimed at within paragraphs and cohesion between them, with a variety of linking devices connecting them. For proof-reading skills students are introduced to and should become familiar with the main proof-reading symbols of the British Standards Authority as well as being aware of their coexistence alongside several other lists of symbols. This introduction to proof-reading skills and symbols aims primarily at sharpening students' awareness of writing skills and especially paying close attention to detail from basic grammar and British spelling and punctuation to American and other emergent varieties of the same. Awareness of more region and socio-dialects is also promoted. .
