British and/or Postcolonial Literature: Postcolonial Short Stories

In this proseminar we will explore key aspects of Postcolonial Studies in order to examine a wide variety of short stories from different countries and cultures that have all been shaped by their colonial past. Our comparative approach, as well as the in-depth analysis of texts, will allow us to “identify” “the Postcolonial” in the chosen primary works. Furthermore, we will try to discover defining characteristics of the (postcolonial) short story as a genre, particularly by considering the historical, political and social context of the texts dealt with.
