This seminar will deal with the relatively new field of research in Medical Humanities in which "illness narratives" have become a major focus. These narratives (novels, short stories, autobiographies, memoirs, etc.) deal with stories of illness, pain, accidents, surgeries, the doctor-patient relationship, the experience of loneliness and isolation of the sick, etc., reported either from the perspective of the doctor or from that of the patient. "Narratives" thereby provide structure to what is experienced as chaos. In the seminar, we will deal with both theoretical and literary texts in this field. Every participant will receive a folder with the texts to be read.
Participation in class; presentation of paper; written paper (15-20 pages)
