This seminar is to be seen in the context of the research fields of "Medical Humanities" and "Law and the Humanities. Literary texts that focus on medical and legal issues will be the focus of this seminar. Those texts will be analyzed and interpreted in regard to ethical questions. For example, in medical narratives the question of whether and how to tell the truth to a terminally ill patient, questions of euthanasia, questions of power in the doctor-patient relationship, etc., will be in the foreground. As for legal narratives, the issue of the death penalty, questions of justice, lynching, revenge, etc., will be at stake. The point will be to approach those issues in medicine and law from the perspective of the Humanities.
