Much like our own time, the early 20th century was tumultuous, divisive, and noisy. Different movements existed next to each other and people were both desperate and hopeful for the future. This is reflected in the sentiment of the Lost Generation but also in the livelihood of the Roaring Twenties and the Harlem Renaissance. The course covers all literary genres in the time between the two World Wars, including works by e.g. Gertrude Stein, Scott F. Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, T.S. Eliot, Eugene O’Neill, Lillian Hellman, Langston Hughes, and Zora Neale Hurston.
