This course focuses on the function of memory and memory loss in film. A selection of Hollywood films and non-US productions together with pertinent literary texts will form the basis for analysis. Texts on memory in philosophy, cultural studies, and rhetoric provide the theoretical framework for the discussions of literary and cinematic "texts" in the course.

Course requirements include: active class participation, a presentation, and a 15-20 page research paper. Students are encouraged to enlist for research topics and presentations prior to the seminar.
