The course serves as an introduction to concepts, contexts, and theories of American cultural studies with a focus on American media. We will explore approaches to American culture and survey basic theoretical, cultural, and media-related concepts. In particular, we will look at historical developments and discuss old and new media formats. There is a strong practical component to the course where students are expected to critically examine and analyze examples from print media, film, television, and new media.
