To analyse the role San Francisco played or plays in American literature and the influence social and political movements and tragedies had or have on authors living and writing there; to practise close reading of the texts we study, and to develop reading, writing, interpreting and discussion skills for the various literary genres

Students must have passed the "Introduction to American Literature and Culture" or "Einführung in die Literaturwissenschaft" to attend this course
