This seminar will concentrate on the most important African American fiction writers of the 20th century, such as Toni Morrison, Richard Wright, Alice Walker, James Baldwin, Zora Neale Hurston, Ralph Ellison, and Maya Angelou. A close analysis of their novels and short stories is meant to give insight into their topics and concerns against the background of their struggle for acceptance and the Civil Rights Movement.
