(either for Film & Media Studies or for American Culture) to investigate in how far film noir is an American genre, primarily of the 1940s and 50s; to deal with the historical, political, and social backgrounds, the origins and literary sources of the genre, and its development over the decades; to study the themes and film techniques in close analyses of sequences, shots, and frames of the films we choose to work on.
Project with presentation, film-viewing out of class, film analysis, group work, class discussion, either a 10-page research paper OR a film with storyboard, script, and short essay
written and oral
All participants must have the "Introduction to Film Studies" or equivalent. For American Culture credit, students must also have passed the "Introduction to American Literature and Culture"
