We will read (excerpts of) the following works: Lydia Maria Child, Hobomok (1824); Catharine Sedgwick, Hope Leslie (1827); Caroline Mathilda Kirkland, A New Home - Who’ll Follow?(1839); The Shirley Letters: From the California Mines (1851-52); Rebecca Davis Harding, “Life in the Iron Mills” (1868); Mary Austin, The Land of Little Rain (1903); Willa Cather, My Àntonia (1918); Laura Ingalls Wilder, Little House on the Prairie (1935).
