Students have basic knowledge of theoretical approaches and research perspectives on language and communication on the Internet and are able to discuss these critically. They are able to finde a research question in this field of research and empirically analyse specific forms of communication on the Internet. They have methodological skills for analysing Internet communication and can present the results of their analyses in oral and written form.

In this course, we will deal with current trends and developments in the field of media and especially internet communication and their effects on our linguistic behaviour. Different theoretical approaches and research perspectives will be discussed, which will then be applied to specific forms of Internet communication. The main focus of the course is the empirical analysis of self-selected forms of communication in different languages (Italian, French, Spanish, German - also comparative, depending on the language skills of the participants), including the most recent developments (e.g. in the field of social media, chatbots, etc.).
