Awareness of grammatical issues both from the theoretical and practical point of view; knowledge of basic terms and concepts of traditional grammar as well as of typical Italian word, phrase and sentence structures; comprehension and knowledge of criteria for the analysis of parts of speech, parts of sentences (and their possible elements), and subordinate clauses.

The Italian parts of speech and their morphological, semantic and distributional characteristics; syntactic functions and semantic roles of sentence parts (and their possible elements) and of subordinate clauses.

The professor presents the arguments with the help of a PowerPoint presentation, but there will also be the possibility of discussing and putting questions.

The grammatical phenomena under investigation are analyzed on the basis of individual observations (inductive) and general theoretical considerations (deductive). The results are deepened and illustrated by concrete examples from Italian.

For a better understanding and memorization we will also make several exercises and discuss their results/solutions together.

Final exam at the end of the semester; active participation during the lessons; completion of any homework.

Documents are provided for each area covered; any further literature will be announced during the semester.

If possible, completion of compulsory module 6 (= Language I) or sufficient linguistic knowledge for the linguistic analysis of the Italian language.

If you already have a good knowledge of Italian at the beginning of your studies, you can also attend the course in the 2nd semester (or in the 1st semester) - even if this is contrary to the degree course scheme (which is not based on the individual abilities of the students and is merely a suggestion that does not necessarily have to be followed exactly).
