Students are familiar with the basics and basic concepts of Italian linguistics and can apply them to concrete examples from Italian.

The following topics will be presented and discussed: the functions of language; Italian language as a Romance language; origin and development of Italian; Italian phonology and phonetics; Italian morphology and word-formation; Italian lexicology and semantics.

Lecture; discussion; exercises and assignments; reading of basic literature.

Final exam at the end of the semester; active participation during the lessons; carrying out of homework assessments.

If possible, completed module 6 ("Pflichtmodul 6") or sufficient language skills for the linguistic analysis of the Italian language.

If you already have a good knowledge of Italian at the beginning of your studies, you can also attend the course in the 2nd semester (or possibly even in the 1st semester) – also against the study plan ("Studienverlaufsplan"). The latter does not take into account the individual abilities of the students and is merely a suggestion that does not necessarily have to be followed exactly.

It is planned to carry out activities related to the "PromptLab" project (https://www.uibk.ac.at/en/projects/promptlab/) during the course.
