611345 Excursion to a Hispanophone Country
winter semester 2017/2018 | Last update: 05.10.2017 | Place course on memo listIn this course, the students will focus on the linguistic variation of Spanish in Andalusia. In the first half of 2017/18, we will provide a variety of theoretical foundations and methodological steps to create our own corpora for the exploration of varieties of Andalusian Spanish.
During an approximately one-week excursion to Andalusia during the semester breaks (February 2018) the corpora (to the perceptive variety linguistics and the connection of linguistic accommodation and local identity) are prepared and analyzed and interpreted during the summer semester 2018.
The results will be presented in collaboration with the lecturer Jannis Harjus at a Congress about Modern Approaches to Andalusian Spanish in May 2018 at the University of Innsbruck, to which various experts from Spain, Switzerland and the USA will appear.
Areas in which the students will gain experience:
- Modern sociolinguistics
- Andalusian varieties of Spanish
- Cultures in southern Spain, from the relevant literature and through personal experiences at the destination
- Organization of an international congress
We will use methods from the Perceptual Dialectology and from the study of communities of practice in the field.
Participation and implemantation of the survey in Andalusia.
Good knowledge of the Spanish language, interest in field research and a burning interest in getting to know the southern region of Spain.
The excursion to Andalusia takes place in the semester breaks in February 2018 and must already be paid by every student at the beginning of October 2017. In the course of the semesters 2017/18 and 2018 parts of this expenditure will be repaid by special grants. However, there will probably be an deductible in the payment of the trip.
