To get an insight into American culture; to understand cultural texts and develop the ability to express oneself about such phenomena, i. e. to develop debating and presentation skills on cultural topics from a transcultural perspective.

The proseminar deals with the general topic of "Looking at America: The Land and Its People” and will take up a variety of topics relevant for an understanding of American society and culture.

Text-based discussions (students have to read short texts for every session so they have a basis for discussions); short student presentations; short inputs by the lecturer.
