Art and trade have always had a coexisting relationship. The art market is responsible for proving the authenticity of artworks, estimating and determining their current value and forming artist’s careers. Therefore knowledge of the markets possibilities, mechanisms and its most important players is crucial to any art historian. Three specialists will be giving insight into three essential segments of the market: Marianne Hussl- Hörmann, who works for the auction house Kinsky in Vienna and is an expert in art of the 19th and 20th centuries, will concentrate on the question of how to value works of art and the importance of the art market in art business; Verena Konzert, who will focus on the occupations of art traders referring to the specific situation in Tyrol and Stefan Rothleitner, curator and intermediary between artists and collectors, who will present an insight into the diversity of the art market. The lecture will be held in Innsbruck and Vienna, including visits to galleries, ateliers and auction houses.
Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants).
