Expanding the traditional perspective, gaining insight into the global interconnections of historical developments.

In this course, we will address key questions relating to the relatively new field of global history. What is global history? How can it be written? What are the key approaches and where do they have their limitations? We will also examine some themes in global history, as well as central debates within and surrounding the discipline, and gain insights into ongoing research projects.

This course is also considered Extra-European History I or II for students of the curriculum BA History (2009). In this case, a reduced workload applies.
