Verständnis für die historischen Entwicklungen in Südafrika, die zum Ende des Apartheid-Systems geführt haben.
The transition of South Africa from minority rule to complete democracy is often described as a so-called "political miracle". However, the whole process was based on the legacy and the harsh realities of the country's past and a determined will to obtain - by various negotiating teams - a just and new constitutional dispensation for all South Africans through reconciliation. At the same time, addressing the injustices of apartheid, they tried hard to achieve a process of restitution. This course will trace the conditions and situation in South Africa that would give rise to the unbanning of liberation movements such as the ANC, PAC and SACP, the release from prison of the leaders of the liberation movement such as Mr. Nelson Mandela, black and white responses, the so-called CODESA negotiations for a new South African constitution and the inauguration of the new democratic South Africa in 1994. Some responses to the post-apartheid dispensation in South Africa will also be touched upon.
