This course accompanies and complements the “Einführung in die Didaktik des Fremdsprachenunterrichts”. The workshop sessions are linked, whenever possible, with the topics covered in the “Einführung” and exemplify the language-specific practical implementation of the theoretical underpinnings of language teaching. Aims of this course include: • experiencing the relationship between principles and practice • reflecting critically the methodological principles behind such practice • generating practical ways of implementing such principles.

A series of informal workshops where a range of communicative activities are experienced, the aims behind them analyzed and conclusions drawn. Areas covered include: using visuals communicatively, generating lesson plans, promoting interculturalism, bridging and integrating skills, planning a term’s work with a CEFR B1 level class, activating receptive vocabulary, using video and modern media communicatively, among others.

Trainer-facilitated workshop mode, with English as lingua franca, involving individual tasks, pairwork and group activities. From receptive intake, via critical awareness, towards productive and creative output.

Portfolio to be completed in the course of the term, active participation and homework.

A requirement for the admission is among other things the parallel registration for this course and for the course "Introduction to Foreign Language Teaching" ("Einführung in die Didaktik des Fremdsprachenunterrichts").

This course is part of IMoF's Initial Module (Eingangsmodul). The admission to the course follows the conditions of admission (for information please consult the IMoF website: http://www.uibk.ac.at/imof/lehre.html).

Another session of 90 minutes will be arranged for Group 1.
