winter semester 2025/2026 | Last update: 01.10.2025 | Place course on memo listThis course accompanies and complements the “Einführung in die Didaktik des Fremdsprachenunterrichts”. The workshop sessions are closely linked with the topics covered in the “Einführung” and exemplify the language-specific practical implementation of the theoretical underpinnings of communicative and action-oriented language teaching.
Aims of this course include:
• experiencing the relationship between principles and practice
• reflecting critically the methodological principles behind language teaching practice
• generating practical ways of implementing principles of language teaching
A series of sessions aimed at experiencing communicative activities, analysing the underlying objectives and drawing conclusions for one's own teaching practice. Topics covered include: communicative use of media such as pictures/videos/songs and digital tools, creating lesson plans and semester planning, developing communicative learning tasks, promoting inter/transcultural learning and global learning, teaching vocabulary and grammar, motivating students and implementing a multilingual approach.
Mini-lecturettes, group, pair and individual work, open learning sessions
Classroom simulation
Portfolio / dossier consisting of 3-4 tasks such as
-planning a term
-planning a lesson
-language portrait or language learning biography
Active participation in class

Successful completion of compulsory module 5 of the Bachelor's degree programme Teaching Profession at Secondary Schools (General Education) Subject: English. Prerequisite for admission is also the parallel registration for this course and the course "Introduction to the Didactics of Foreign Language Teaching" (both part of the compulsory module 1 "Foundations in Modern Language Teaching and Learning").
This course is part of the compulsory module 1 ("Foundations in Modern Language Teaching and Learning") of the Bachelor's degree programme Teacher Training (General Education) Subject: English. Admission to the programme is in accordance with the admission requirements (information can be found on the IMoF website):
