-to learn about the theory of listening and speaking and be able to apply it to the practice of teaching these two skills.
-to gain practical ideas for conducting effective speaking and listening lessons.
-to be able to select meaningful listening and speaking activities appropriate for the needs, interests and level of their learners
-to know about language corpora, lexical approaches and the use of dictionaries
-to know about how words are learned and to show learners various vocabulary learning strategies to enable them to become effective vocabulary learners.
This course offers an overview of the underlying concepts and practical skills that are needed for EFL students to develop listening and speaking skills in English. Students will learn methods and strategies for planning and implementing listening and speaking instruction for all ages and all relevant levels from A1-B2+.
Specific topics will include how listening and speaking work (findings from applied linguistics), the PWP model of teaching listening, the importance of training metacognitive strategies, the features of spoken language, concrete activities and methods for improving speaking fluency at all levels, etc.
We will also deal with latest research finding about vocabulary learning and what these mean for our classroom practice.
You will get a chance to design your own materials and activities and try them out in short classroom simulations.
