Providing an overview over the political, social, cultural and economic history of the Roman entry into the East; its source evidence and methods of critical analysis

The lecture' aim is to provide an overview of the Roman entry into the East from the first diplomatic contacts to the tendencies of indirect rule up to the direct control. In addition, the limits of the Roman Eastern expansion will be discussed. A special focus will be on the critical analysis of the literary depiction of the opponents of Rome viewed from the outside.
