The students know texts, written by historians whose theoretical and methodological reflections have been important for the developments and changes in historical research.

They acquire skills to get familiar with those texts

and the competence to put other historical or actual texts in which theories and methods are generated or discussed into their special historical contexts and to discuss them critically.

Essays of historians or scientists of related disciplines which were/are decisive for the developments in historiography are analysed with regard to their main statements and conclusions, contextualised and discussed critically.

The students are expected to be present regularly and to take an active part in the course; the oral presentation of a prepared text (referring to its essential statements and its historical context combined with a critical analysis) is required as well as writing a paper (10 pp. max.) dealing with a new text in the same way, taking into account the presentations and discussions of the course as well.

basic literature will be announced in the course; research of further specific literature is part of the students´ tasks.
