Students will learn to deal with social an in particular political aspects of former and todays core concepts of European Ethnology. We will discuss fundamental questions of present society with respect to cognitive interest of our discipline. 

The course will take a closer look into different ways of exploitation of concepts such as culture, identity and "Heimat" in todays media and political texts but also in popular culture or touristic contexts. We will start with reading introductory literature and move on to analysing different media texts (such as government or party programms, canvassing in the context of election campaigns, but also in sp called "Volkstümlicher Musik" or in touristic contexts.
