• to experience the symbiotic relationship between principles and practice • to analyse critically the methodological principles behind such practice • to generate practical ways of implementing such principles • to focus on approaches that encourage learner autonomy

A series of informal workshops where a range of communicative activities are experienced, the aims behind them analyzed and conclusions drawn. Areas covered include: using visuals communicatively, exploiting minimal materials, generating lesson plans, bridging and integrating skills, planning a term’s work with a CEFR B1 level class, activating receptive vocabulary, developing reading strategies, using video communicatively, promoting interculturalism, among others.

Trainer-facilitated workshop mode, with English as lingua franca, involving individual tasks, pairwork and group activities. From receptive intake, via critical awareness, towards productive and creative output.

Album to be completed in the course of the term. 15-minute interview in English based on the album, in which issues and problem areas are picked up and discussed. Assessment criteria for the communicative effectiveness of the interview include: task achievement, content/ substance, logic and argumentation, communicative fluency, clarity of articulation, and linguistic accuracy.
