There are clear indications that learning content and language in an integrated way will become increasingly important in the classrooms of the future. This course aims to give an overview of the possibilities and state-of-the-art of teaching a subject through the medium of English. The course will include a view of CLIL practices, an introduction to established CLIL methodologies including reference to language acquisition theories, which are useful to CLIL. There will be opportunities to apply methodologies to materials from various subject areas, to devise and trial model lesson plans and to reflect upon their effectiveness.
Input by tutor, individual research on theme, group work during university session, teamwork applied during classroom application phase as in preparation for university-session presentation, group presentations by students, written reflective paper submitted by team.

To be supplied within first three sessions.
The course is conceived primarily for language students with a second subject, which could be taught in English. These students will be prioritised. However, the course might well be of interest for future teachers of languages with the view to involvement in cross-curricular projects as the language expert.
