Graduates of this module understand the contents of the lecture and can reproduce and apply them. They know the methods of distribution theory and are able to apply them to mathematical problems, e.g. from the theorey of linear partial differential equations.

The lecture provides an introduction to the theory of distributions and provides some insights into its application, in particular to the theory of partial differential equations. In particular the following topics are covered:

• Operations with distributions: Derivative, multiplication and convolution
• Fundamental solutions of partial differential operators
• Fourier transform
• The Malgrange-Ehrenpreis Theorem

Lecture, assessment is based on a single examination at the end of the course.
