Students who successfully complete this course will have developed a deep understanding of the concepts, principles, and methods of human-computer interaction. They will be empowered to design and evaluate user-friendly and effective interaction systems.

The lecture covers fundamental knowledge for the conception, design, and evaluation of usable human-computer interfaces. To achieve this, it touches on human information processing (physiological and psychological fundamentals, models, action processes) as well as the technical realization of user interfaces (input and output devices, interaction styles), in addition to user-centered design processes and guidelines and standards for usability.

Subsequently, the lecture focuses on the evaluation and assessment of human-computer interfaces with respect to various criteria. This requires a broad understanding of research methodology. Therefore, various types of studies (e.g., descriptive studies, relational studies, experimental studies), study paradigms (including ethnography, laboratory studies, field studies, deployments), and data collection methods (e.g., questionnaires, interviews, observations, experience sampling, and crowdsourcing) are discussed.

The lecture will be taught in German.

Allocation of places in courses with a limited number of participants (PS, SE, VU, PJ)

In courses with a limited number of participants, course places are allocated as follows:

1. Students for whom the study duration would be extended due to the postponement are to be given priority.

2. If the criteria in no. 1 do not suffice, first, students for whom this course is part of a compulsory module are to be given priority, and second, students for whom this course is part of an elective module.

3. If the criteria in no. 1 and 2 do not suffice, the available places are drawn by random.
