Advanced understanding of selected advanced areas of specialisation in perception, interaction and robotics; acquisition of the ability to independently educate themselves in the field.

Machine Learning denotes software systems whose behavior is determined by data (and not just by algorithms). This course is about systems that improve their performance while interacting with their environment, such as AI-enabled robots. It will cover Deep Reinforcement Learning in detail. Further topics will be chosen from recent progress in robot AI depending on student interest, e.g. autonomous model learning, object-centered representation learning, or causality.

The VU conveys theoretical concepts that are solidified in exercises and programming projects. Part of the content is conveyed in lecture format; further topics may include student presentations.

Basic prior competence in machine learning (as taught in our ML courses 703075/703076 or 703326) and in mathematics is expected.
