703338 SE Forschungsseminar: Text Mining
Sommersemester 2025 | Stand: 22.12.2024 | LV auf Merkliste setzenStudents who have completed this seminar should be able to gain an understanding of selected areas of specialization within the domain of natural language processing and text analysis. They are able to deal with the areas creatively and methodically correctly, and to further their education independently. In particular, the ability to actively participate in scientific discourse is acquired.
In-depth study of a selected advanced topic in natural language processing, text analysis and/or information extraction/retrieval (e.g., automatic question answering/generation, text summarization, timeline generation, knowledge extraction from document collections, text-based forecasting, bias detection in text). This serves in particular as preparation for the future writing of scientific research papers such as surveys, or preparation for the master thesis. The focus is on critical examination of the contents and on gaining good understanding of a particular research subarea.
The seminar assumes independent work of students to survey a particular subfield of NLP area. Reading scientific research papers, surveying selected research field and writing final report as well as preparing student presentations about the survey.
Assessment based on written and/or oral contribution by participants.
Will be discussed in the first session.
Allocation of places in courses with a limited number of participants (PS, SE, VU, PJ)
In courses with a limited number of participants, course places are allocated as follows:
1. Students for whom the study duration would be extended due to the postponement are to be given priority.
2. If the criteria in no. 1 do not suffice, first, students for whom this course is part of a compulsory module are to be given priority, and second, students for whom this course is part of an elective module.
3. If the criteria in no. 1 and 2 do not suffice, the available places are drawn by random.
