In this hands-on course we will design, implement and test an Embedded Sensing System based on a microcontroller, sensor peripherals as well as a custom designed printed circuit board. You will learn the design flow from specification, use of the appropriate design tools, review, manufacturing and test.
We will design an ARM-based Datalogger able to digitize and store typical environmental sensors like temperature, humidity, air pressure etc. Teams of two students will each select a sensor to be sampled, derive a design specification, implement a system design that we will finally manufacture and test. The course will be offered in-part as a block course.

Assessment based on project milestones; Final project presentation

Embedded Systems and/or Low-Power System Design; knowledge of computer architecture; c-programming skills; elementary electronics/physics

A Windows Laptop to run and install the necessary tools.

Allocation of places in courses with a limited number of participants (PS, SE, VU, PJ)

In courses with a limited number of participants, course places are allocated as follows:

1. Students for whom the study duration would be extended due to the postponement are to be given priority.

2. If the criteria in no. 1 do not suffice, first, students for whom this course is part of a compulsory module are to be given priority, and second, students for whom this course is part of an elective module.

3. If the criteria in no. 1 and 2 do not suffice, the available places are drawn by random.
