703820 VO Physically-Based Simulation
winter semester 2020/2021 | Last update: 26.07.2021 | Place course on memo listBy the end of this course students will be knowledgeable of standard techniques to simulate physical processes, have an understanding of the use of differential equations to describe physical phenomena, be familiar with methods to discretize and solve equations, have knowledge of typical numerical integration techniques.
Physically-based simulation is an indispensable element in the domain of computer graphics. Related techniques are employed in animated feature films, movie special effects, 3D video games, virtual environments, or interactive simulations such as surgical training systems. This module will focus on the underlying physical concepts as well as the numerical methods required for simulating animation effects, such as the deformation of objects, the motion and collision of rigid bodies, or the flow of fluids.
Lecture, assessment is based on a single examination at the end of the course.
Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations".
Will be discussed in the first lesson.
Knowledge in analysis and linear algebra.
The lecture is conceived as VO+PS. It is recommended that students participate in both parts. The lecture and proseminar Physically-Based Simulation (VO2, PS3) can be used as an optional elective module of the Master programme Computer Science ('Zuordnungsbestätigung'). All Information are available here.
