By the end of this course, the students should understand the basic concepts of compact-object formation and dynamical evolution. They should be able to run some simple simulations to produce synthetic populations of compact-object binaries and to understand their implication for gravitational wave detection.
Basic notions of massive star evolution. Basic notions of supernova models. Processes in binary evolution. Formation of black hole and neutron star binaries. Dynamics of black holes and neutron stars. Population synthesis and N-body codes to study demography of compact objects. Linking demography of black holes and neutron stars to gravitational wave detections.
