The students should understand the basics of numerical hydrodynamics and should be able to write simple one-dimensional codes to simulate the gravitational collapse of molecular cloud and dynamics of a protoplanetary disk in FORTRAN 90/95 scientific computing language.

The process of star and planet formation involves several key physical processes such as gravity, radiation transport, laminar and turbulent gas flows, friction between gas and dust particles, and dust growth to planetary bodies. Understanding the interplay of these processes often requires numerical simulations, which boil down to the numerical solution of hydrodynamics equations, modified for the presence of gravity, radiation, magnetic fields, and dust. In this course of lectures, the students will learn the basics of hydrodynamics and the grid-based numerical methods to solve them, with application to gravitational collapse of molecular clouds and the dynamical evolution of protoplanetary disks around protostars. Main concepts of FORTRAN
90/95 scientific computing language will also be explained.

Course examination and evaluation of practical exercises.

Basic knowledge of numerical mathematics. Previous acquaintance with scientific computing languages (any) is desirable but not necessary.

The course will be delivered in English.
