The students will understand the principles of most important analytical methods in Earth sciences. Moreover, they are able to generate and present data from selected lab methods.  

Overview on the principles and data types of most important analytical methods in Earth sciences: e.g. XRF, XRD, grain size analysis, microscopy, thermo-analysis, electron microprobe, high-pressure synthesis. 

Theoretical lectures (50%)

Lab work and data analysis (40%)

Data calculations (10%)

Several tasks (reports) throughout the semester with a focus on lab data processing, calculations on lab data and theoretical considerations. 

Will be discussed in the first lesson. All lecture slides will be available on OLAT. 

No final exam, but evaluation throughout the semester (tasks)

Im Anschluß an die Theorie jeweils bis 11:45 im Laborbetrieb.
