The scientific field of Cognitive Neuroscience received its name in the late 1970s by a neuroscientist (Michael S. Gazzaniga, one of the founders of the Society and the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience) and the great cognitive psychologist George A. Miller. Over the last three decades a single worldwide forum for research on the biological bases of mental events has developed bridging the gap between descriptions of information processing and specifications of brain activity. Most of the highly successful scientific work is interdisciplinary in character, drawing on developments especially in computer science, neuropsychology, neuroscience, and cognitive psychology. After a brief historical introduction into the scientific area of Cognitive Neuroscience, this seminar will focus on current theoretical, empirical, and research reviews supported by cutting-edge technology within this area. Research work will be presented and discussed expounding the role of the interdisciplinary, multi-level approach to construct conceptual views of how the brain actually enables the mind.
Seminar with interactive groupe work, reports and discussions. (Es wird von den TeilnehmerInnen die Bereitschaft vorausgesetzt die Seminarreferate und die Diskussionen in englischer Sprache zu halten).
