The aim of this course is to provide students with a non-pharmaceutical background a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental concepts and underlying scientific principles of pharmaceutical manufacturing and biotechnology.

Pharmaceutical manufacturing

• Pharmaceutical basic operations: grinding, blending, filtration, drying, etc.
• Pharmaceutical excipients and polymeric materials
• Physico-chemical principles and technology of pharmaceutical preparations such as powder, tablets, capsules, granules and pellets, liquid preparations, dispersed systems, semi-solid formulations etc.
• Industrial development and production of pharmaceuticals, process engineering and analysis

Biotechnology

• Scope, concepts and terminology of biotechnology
• Process of bio-manufacturing
• Regulatory and social issues surrounding biotechnology
• Self-centered learning content

Lecture with interactive elements involving student participation, audience response systems, online handouts
