The students will understand the basics of genetics and genomics and their molecular mechanisms. 

The lecture will cover basic introductions into:

• structure, function, variability and regulation of genes and genomes
• genetic variation
• genotypes and phenotypes
• inheritance patterns
• relevance of genetics in health and disease with a focus on human genetics
• analytical methods, molecular genetics & cytogenetics
• population genetics
• forensic genetics
• pharmacogenetics
• ethical aspects

Lecture with some interactive elements involving student participation

written exam (three possible dates per course, usually in conjunction with other exams)

Students must select 2 lectures offered (VO2 each)
