Upon completing the course, students will be able to describe the biology and various ecological characteristics of the order Hymenoptera.

Students will learn to discuss and contextualize the importance of Hymenoptera for terrestrial ecology and humankind.

They will be familiar with the key role of hymenopterans in the environment, the threats they face, and their relevance in the context of the biodiversity decline and can transfer this knowledge to other groups and systems.

Hymenoptera

This course provides a general overview of the ecology of one of the largest and most diverse insects orders on our planet – the Hymenoptera.
Structured as a series of lectures, the course touches upon the topics of hymenopteran diversity, conservation, life cycles, behaviour and socio-biology. Further, the course presents the roles played by hymenopterans in ecosystems and their interactions with other organisms, including plants and humans.
