The course aims to provide students with the basic instrumental knowledge required to perform experiments involving molecular ions, their production/characterization and their interaction with other particles. Topics like electronics, vacuum and particle detection shall be covered in sufficient depth so that a student will be able to handle him/herself in the lab in a productive and safe manner.

-    Basic electronic concepts: DC and AC circuits, Thevenin equivalents; practical circuits in the lab (high voltage supplies and measurement, detector biasing, control electronics);
-    Particle detectors, basic signal processing and acquisition;
-    Vacuum technology (vacuum generation and measurement, materials for vacuum environments).

Theoretical classes 2 h per week, and lab demonstrations/exercises for 1 h per week.

Theoretical examination (oral) + end of semester project
