The course is aimed to provide a freh overview to an interdisciplinary audiance on the recent research and development in photonics, in particular the physics and applications of solid state quantum emitters such as molecules, defect centres, 2D materials and semiconductor quantum dots.

Starting from an overview, we will arrive at the state-of-the-art and recent developments, trying to contrast the capabilities of each of these system for photonic applications. Afterwards we will follow a few selected experimental techniques ranging from microscopy, photonic cavities and laser control and characterisation techiques. We will conclude with an interactive exercise on a couple of selected research papers to identify how they combine various interdisciplinary techniques to produce high impact research.

Module 1: introduction
- brief overview on solid-state quantum emitters: molecules, NV centres, 2D materials, QD

Module 2: controlling emitter properties
- the power of nanophotonics: what you can and cannot do with emitters coupled to cavities

Module 3: optical control of emitters
- laser excitation methods and how they differ for different emitters
- pulse shaping techniques and its impact in quantum-nano-photonics

Tail-end: Exercise involving 2 or 3 research papers to identify how they combine all these multidisciplinary areas for impactful research
