Einführung in die Humanethologie / Introduction to Human Ethology

A variety of scientific approaches are needed to better understand human behaviour. Linking perception, feeling, evaluation, thinking and behaviour enables deeper insights. In this textbook edition, particular attention is paid to learning and culture, intellect and ego-consciousness, family and social structure, aggression and hierarchy (cf 28th EPSiG Newsletter), moral capacity and behavioural differences due to gender, humanity and dignity. 

To deepen these topics relevant to everyday life, vertebrate performances of varying complexity are compared with the aim of reconstructing the evolutionary development of human behaviour. On this basis, special features of human behaviour can be interpreted and the special position of humans can be demonstrated. 

Body and soul have been formed in evolution; therefore, evolution has left its mark on both. The body-soul problem, which underlies many apparent contradictions, finds an explanation in the evolution of our cognitive ability. This also reveals the reason for the division of the faculties into natural sciences and cultural sciences and humanities. These and many other ways of thinking in this lecture offer an aid to understanding between disciplines and between schools in psychotherapy. 

The lecture will be held in German; based on the English textbook, oral examinations in English are possible.

Chapters 8 and 12 are not subject of the examination.
