  • Insights into activist foundations and (hi)stories of intersex studies
  • Critical perspectives on the medical treatment of intersex people as violent enforcement of binary sex and gender norms
  • Knowledge and critical reflexion of current developments in the German-speaking area
  • Understanding of activist and interdisciplinary connections and potentials of intersex studies
  • Exemplary Reflexion of questions of intersex visibility and representation

The course introduces several different domains of intersex studies as a resistant and power critical research movement that crucially builds on activist knowledge production and on the life experiences of intersex people themselves. Through four thematic units, we deal with activist foundations and resources (1), focus medicine criticism as a central area of action for intersex studies (2), reflect on intersectional relations as well as connection and tension lines with other resistant research fields (3) and consider potentials and problems of intersex visibility and representation based on selected examples (4).
