800706 AG Study Group: Figthing term gender - feminism & LGBTIQ+ as enemy image of right-wing ideologies
summer semester 2025 | Last update: 06.03.2025 | Place course on memo listAfter attending the course students know foundational concepts, terms and theoretical approaches to critical research on right-wing extremism and antifeminism from a gender perspective.
Building on this they are able to interrogate and analyse current political statements and formulate their own position as well a a well-founded rationale.
In recent years, gender, gender relations and sexuality have been the object of fierce political and social debate. For right-wing and authoritarian forces in particular, gender and everything associated with this term represents a political bogeyman. Building on a specific (mis-)representation of gender anti-democratic narratives are spread. Partly those narratives also find resonance in political mainstream.
In this seminar we will work to build an understanding of right-wing extremism, the importance of gender and sexuality for the (extreme) right, and of anti-feminism based on research and academic debates. We will first and foremost work on concrete examlples - e.g. narratives on social media, in the manosphere or among tradwives, current conspiracy narrative like the 'Great Replacement'.
